Katherine Van de Vate translates modern Arabic literature. She holds a master’s degree in translation studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies. Her translations have appeared in Arablit Quarterly, Words without Borders, Asymptote, Y’alla, the Markaz Review, Sekka, and elsewhere. Her translation of Omani author Badriyah al-Badri’s novel The Last Crossing was published by Dar Arab in March 2024. Prior to working in translation, Katherine served as a U.S. diplomat in the Middle East and as an Arabic curator at the British Library. She lives in London.
