Lina Huyan Elhassan is a Syrian novelist, born in 1975. She studied philosophy at Damascus University. She comes from a Bedouin family, a culture that is at the center of her work. She has worked as a journalist since 2003, and in 2013, she moved to Lebanon after her brother was killed in Syria. She has published nine works of fiction and non-fiction, including novels and poetry. Her novel Diamonds and Women was shortlisted for the 2015 International Prize for Arabic Fiction, and more recently, her novel The Ruler of the Two Fortresses, was longlisted for the 2023 International Prize for Arabic Fiction.
