Al Jadeed Publishing was founded in Beirut in 1990 by the late Lebanese activist and documentary filmmaker, Lokman Slim and his sister, the author Rasha al Ameer, with a unique focus on long-forgotten topics in Arab publishing. Dar Al Jadeed publishes fiction, non-fiction, and poetry by prominent contemporary Arab writers as well as writers from around the world. Dar Al Jadeed also supports young and emerging “avant-garde” young writers. Lokman Slim and Dar Al Jadeed were awarded the 2021 Prix Voltaire, a prize that supports freedom of expression and the freedom to publish.
