Khalid Al Maaly is an Iraqi poet, publisher and translator who left Iraq in 1979 and settled in Cologne, Germany, where he founded the independent publishing house, Al Kamel Verlag (also called “Al Jamal”) in 1983. Al-Maaly has published more than a dozen of his own collections of poetry and numerous translations from German into Arabic and from Arabic into German, introducing the work of writers such as Badr Shakir Al Sayab, Saadi Youssef, Hans Magnus Enzensburger, and Gottfried Benn, to new audiences. The publishing house is now based in Sharjah (UAE).
