Larbi Ramdani is an Algerian writer and journalist born in 1986 in the town of Sidi Naamane in Médéa. He received his BA in media and communications in 2008 from the University of Algiers. In 2017, Ramdani decided to emigrate to Europe after he was unable to find work. When his requests for a European visa were rejected multiple times, Ramdani travelled to Turkey and crossed the border illegally to Greece. However, his attempts to settle in Europe failed, and he was deported back to Algeria in late 2017 after spending many months living illegally in Greece.
His first and only book The Songs of Salt: Memoir of a Harrag (Anāshīd al-milh: sīrat harrag), published in 2019, is an autobiographical narrative which depicts the harrowing details of his experience as an illegal immigrant (harrag).
